Bezembinden

Tijdens dit webinar demonstreet en vertelt Raleigh Klotzek ons meer over de het binden van handbezems, zoals de ‘turkey wing’. Dat is een traditionele handbezem gemaakt van Sorghum, de graansoort die in Amerika ook wel bekend staat als ‘broom corn’.

Over Raleigh Klotzek

Raleigh woont en werkt samen met haar man als wildcraftedhome, beter bekend als wildcrafted workshop. Tot voor kort waren ze reizend met oranje camper, maar sinds kort zijn ze woonachtig in Zweden. Ze geven les in diverse traditionele ambachten, waaronder het werken met de wipdraaibank, lepelsnijden, houtbewerking en ook in het binden van borstels en bezems. Ze zijn mede-organisator van het Duitse ambachtsfestival Von Hand.

Masters of Sloyd

Masters of Sloyd is een webinarserie waarin makers online via Zoom vertellen over hun ambacht. Masters of Sloyd is ontstaan vanuit mijn eigen belangstelling om meer te weten te komen over oude ambachten en de mensen die ze nu nog beoefenen. Ik vind het mooi om die kennis te helpen verspreiden in de moderne wereld, omdat ik geloof dat deze ambachten de hedendaagse mens, de producten die ze gebruikt en de natuur weer wat dichter bij elkaar kunnen brengen.

Broom binding

During this webinar, Raleigh Klotzek tells us more about the history and making of a ‘turkey wing’ hand broom. This is a traditional hand broom made from Sorghum, the grain that is also known in America as ‘broom corn’.

About Raleigh Klotzek

Raleigh lives and works with her husband in their business Wild Crafted Home; you may recognise them as @wildcraftedworkshop. Until recently they were traveling with an orange campervan, but in the last month they have moved to Sweden. They teach a variety of traditional crafts, including the pole lathe, spoon carving, woodworking, and also brush and broom binding. They are co-organizers of the German craft festival Von Hand.

Masters of Sloyd arose from my own interest in learning more about traditional crafts and the people who still practice them today. I like to help spread that knowledge in the modern world, because I believe that these crafts can bring contemporary people, the products they use and nature closer together.
