Molly Sjöstam (@slojdarmolly) is een bekende Zweedse handarbeidster. Vanavond vertelt zij ons meer over de decoratietechniek reliefcarving/reliëfsnijden.

Reliëfsnijden

Reliëfsnijden is een houtsnijtechniek waarbij het niet draait om wat je wegsnijdt, maar meer nog om wat je laat zitten. Met deze techniek kan je heel mooie 3-dimensionale decoraties aanbrengen.

Over Molly Sjöstam

Molly Sjöstam komt uit de buurt van Umeå in Noord-Zweden. Molly is professioneel handwerker en leeft van de verkoop van haar handwerk en het geven van cursussen. Reliefsnijden is een van haar specaliteiten ze ze staat bekend om kleurrijkwerk met organische vormen. Zo snijdt ze bloemen, bladpatronen en kaneelbroodjes.

Masters of Sloyd

Masters of Sloyd is een webinarserie waarin makers online via Zoom vertellen over hun ambacht. Masters of Sloyd is ontstaan vanuit mijn eigen belangstelling om meer te weten te komen over oude ambachten en de mensen die ze nu nog beoefenen. Ik vind het mooi om die kennis te helpen verspreiden in de moderne wereld, omdat ik geloof dat deze ambachten de hedendaagse mens, de producten die ze gebruikt en de natuur weer wat dichter bij elkaar kunnen brengen.

Relief carving

Relief carving is a woodcarving technique where it’s not about what you cut away, but more about what you leave behind. With this technique you can apply very nice 3-dimensional decorations.

Molly Sjöstam comes from near Umeå in northern Sweden. Molly is a professional craftsman and lives from selling her handicrafts and giving courses. Relief carving is one of her specialties and she is known for colorful work with organic shapes. She carves flowers, leaf patterns and cinnamon buns.

Masters of Sloyd is a webinar series in which makers talk about their craft online via Zoom. Masters of Sloyd arose from my own interest in learning more about traditional crafts and the people who still practice them today. I like to help spread that knowledge in the modern world, because I believe that these crafts can bring contemporary people, the products they use and nature closer together.
