Het verschil tussen een mooie en een héle mooie lepel is vaak de decoratie en de afwerking. Vanavond gaan we het hebben over ‘finals’ en het afwerken door middel van schuren.

Finials en Schuren

Gijs van Zonneveld (La spatule houtsnijwerkplaats) staat bekend om de prachtige versieringen die hij aan het eind van de steel van zijn lepel maakt. Het zijn ware beeldhouwwerkjes. Gijs laat zien hoe hij ze maakt, zodat jij het ook kunt gaan proberen. Daarnaast vertelt hij over het afwerken van je lepel door middel van schuren.

Over Gijs van Zonneveld

In tegenstelling tot veel andere lepelsnijders is Gijs voorstander van schuren als afwerking. Hij was docent op  het Nederlandse Lepelfeest in 2022 en gaf daar ook workshops over finials en schuren.

Masters of Sloyd

Masters of Sloyd is een webinarserie waarin makers online via Zoom vertellen over hun ambacht. Masters of Sloyd is ontstaan vanuit mijn eigen belangstelling om meer te weten te komen over oude ambachten en de mensen die ze nu nog beoefenen. Ik vind het mooi om die kennis te helpen verspreiden in de moderne wereld, omdat ik geloof dat deze ambachten de hedendaagse mens, de producten die ze gebruikt en de natuur weer wat dichter bij elkaar kunnen brengen.

Finals and Sanding

Gijs van Zonneveld (La spatule) is known for the beautiful decorations he makes at the end of the handle of his spoon. They are true sculptures. Gijs shows how he makes them, so that you can try it too. In addition, he tells about finishing your spoon by means of sanding.

About Gijs van Zonneveld

Unlike many other spoon carvers, Gijs favors sanding as a finishing technique. He was a teacher at the Dutch Spoon Festival in 2022 and also gave workshops there about finials and sanding.

Masters of Sloyd is a webinar series in which makers talk about their craft online via Zoom. Masters of Sloyd arose from my own interest in learning more about traditional crafts and the people who still practice them today. I like to help spread that knowledge in the modern world, because I believe that these crafts can bring contemporary people, the products they use and nature closer together.
