Met Kuiper Martinus komen we aan het einde van het vat van dit seizoen Masters of Sloyd.
Op donderdagavond 12 maart vertelt hij zijn verhaal over het eeuwenoude kuipersambacht.

Kuipers maken en onderhouden houten vaten en emmers. Dit ambacht is weliswaar oud, maar springlevend, want zonder houten vaten is het maken van whisky en bepaalde soorten bier niet mogelijk. Martinus van de Wal is, samen met kuipersteam Bonami één van de mensen die dit bijzondere vak springlevend houdt.

Benieuwd waarom, en hoe dit ambacht vandaag de dag nog steeds relevant is? Martinus vertelt ons er alles over!

Wat is Masters of Sloyd?

Masters of Sloyd is een gratis live webinarserie waarin makers online via Zoom vertellen over hun ambacht. Deze webinars zijn ontstaan vanuit mijn eigen belangstelling om meer te weten te komen over oude ambachten en de mensen die ze nu nog beoefenen. Ik vind het mooi om die kennis te helpen verspreiden in de moderne wereld, omdat ik geloof dat deze ambachten de hedendaagse mens, de producten die ze gebruikt en de natuur weer wat dichter bij elkaar kunnen brengen.

De sprekers tijdens Masters of Sloyd geven hun presentatie belangeloos en deelnemen is helemaal gratis, zodat iedereen kan meedoen. Wil je Masters of Sloyd steunen, dan kan heb je aan het eind van het webinar de mogelijkheid een donatie te doen.

With master cooper Martinus, we reach the end of the barrel for this season of Masters of Sloyd. On Thursday evening, 12 March, he will tell his story about the centuries-old craft of coopering.

Coopers make and maintain wooden barrels and buckets. Although this craft is old, it is very much alive, because without wooden barrels it would be impossible to produce whisky and certain types of beer. Together with the Bonami cooperage team, Martinus van de Wal is one of the people keeping this remarkable profession alive.

What is Masters of Sloyd?

Masters of Sloyd is a free live webinar series in which makers share their craft online via Zoom. The series grew out of my own curiosity about traditional crafts and the people who still practise them today. I think it’s important to help pass this knowledge on, because I believe these crafts can bring people, the products they use, and nature a little closer together again.
